Buying Air Mattress

Air MattressAir mattresses are nothing like they used to be. Years ago, you would buy an air mattress, blow it up with a tire pump, and then hope the air did not seep out during the night. Today, the quality of the air mattress has been completely transformed. In fact, most air mattresses on the market today are incredibly comfortable. To help you in the buying process, we have provided you with some great tips.

Many times, people will buy an air mattress to use for overnight family and friends. However, because the quality has improved, we now see people using an air mattress as a primary bed. In addition, air mattresses are now on the market specifically made for camping, providing great support and comfort. As you will discover, a number of factors come into play when choosing an air mattress.

For starters, you want to think about the inflation method. For instance, larger air mattresses require more time and effort in getting the mattress inflated. On the other end of the spectrum, the smaller, less quality mattresses will inflate quick and easy. Regardless, you want to choose a mattress that has a one-way inflation valve, which contains a trip or flap. If you choose an air mattress with a valve that has to be squeezed to blow air in, then this would be a one-way valve. Without this trap or flap, you blow air in only to have it escape.

The better quality air mattress will have another feature that includes an electric or manual pump. With this, the inflation process is much easier. For instance, the manual pump is like a set of spring-loaded bellows that as it is stepped on repeatedly, the mattress inflates. For the electric pump, the pump is turned on and does all the work for you. Obviously, the electric pump is much easier to use, saving you both time and effort.

Another consideration when buying an air mattress has to do with the durability factor, which relates to the overall construction. Interestingly, air mattresses made from plastic appear thin and unstable but in reality, they are quite strong. Then, there is the quality of the welds to think about, which are what hold the mattress together. You can usually find information on welds on the box. If the air mattress is cheaply made, it will eventually fail along the seam lines. Now, some air mattresses are designed with a thicker type plastic coupled with soft fabric for added comfort. These are great choices.

Next, you want to make sure your air mattress comes with a repair kit or that one is available for the type of air mattress you buy. In this case, if you should get a small rip or puncture, the hole can be fixed so air does not leak out. The goal when buying an air mattress in addition to the convenience and comfort is that it should be easy to clean and store. Therefore, look for one that can fold down quickly after use. Remember, just because an air mattress is affordable does not mean it is a bad choice. If possible, test it out and always make sure you get a good warranty.
