First, you will discover that just about all floor tiles are glazed. These bathroom tiles are made using a special process known as dust pressing. With this, just a small amount of water is used. Additionally, the tile bodies are compacted using very high pressure. With glazing, this is done by the bathroom tile being cooked at extreme heat, typically, well over 2,000 degrees. This type of "cooking" makes the tile durable so it can wear well and last a long time.
Depending on where you live, bathroom tile is also graded. This way, you know if the tiles were produced in the respective country or imported. For starters, tiles are graded using Roman numerals. Grade I is the very lowest, grade II is usually used for homes and in high traffic areas such as bathrooms, grade III are also used for residential purposes but generally in lighter traffic areas. Next, you have grade IV, which is used for commercial use and some homes, and then grade V, which is strictly used in industrial uses.
Some of the more popular bathroom tiles include quarry, porcelain, and then ceramic or natural stone. With quarry bathroom tile, these come in many different sizes and shapes, although they are generally laid like bricks, four by eight inches. The burnt clay material is durable because of being fired hard. Then you have the beautiful colour pigments that go all the way through.
Porcelain bathroom tiles are probably the hardest to install but they ware dense and waterproof. Porcelain is also great for a non-slip surface. When glazed, they are great for bathrooms and other rooms in the home. The only downfall is that porcelain bathroom tile is a little more expensive to buy. Then, you have ceramic, which would include limestone, marble, slate, and granite. With such incredible designs and colours, this is always a favourite choice, blending in beautiful with any colour or decorum.
