Creating Bathroom - Choosing A Wash Basin - Selecting A Bath

BathroomRedoing your bathroom can be quite a nightmare if you don't know exactly what you are doing. Chances are, unless you are Beck and Posh, you'll be doing most of your home improvement renovations yourself. Here are some great tips to keep in mind when redoing your bathroom.

1. Choosing A Wash Basin:

There are several things to keep in mind when buying a new basin. Firstly, keep in mind the exact amount of space you can afford to spend on the basin. In addition to the space, also select the style of the basin - a pedestal, wall hung, corner or platform. The basin will also influence the kind of taps you buy. You can choose from separate taps for hot and cold water or a single mixer that adjusts both.

A great way to actually check if the new basin you are considering will work well for your bathroom is to make a cardboard cut out of the exact size of the basin. Place the cardboard cut out where you expect to place the basin and then move in, out and around your bathroom to get a good feel of how it will be placed.

2. Selecting A Bath:

There are two primary things to keep in mind when selecting a bath. The first is the space you have and style you want. The second is the plumbing requirements. In the first case, the space you have will obviously limit your choices so give space the priority and then select a style that will work well. In the second case, check the exact plumbing requirements and ensure you buy a bath that suits these requirements. The taps and drainage are of prime importance with your bath.

3. Stylizing Your Bathroom:

OK, so now that you've got the basics in place how about adding some panache to your humdrum bathroom? Every bathroom requires some minimum amount of storage space for toiletries, towels and other miscellaneous items. Under the sink cupboards and over the counter shelves not only offer great storage space but can also be used to stamp your bathroom with your unique personality.

One thing to keep in mind is that if your bathroom is white then avoid using chrome and steel for the cupboards. That could give it an extremely clinical look. Instead opt for wood finish laminates to infuse some warmth into the bathroom. If you have used a lot of color in your bathroom, then glass doors on your cupboards could provide just the right balance to keep things looking good.

One important thing to remember is that the challenge lies in making small spaces functional and yet appealing. It is always best to design a floor plan before embarking on any project so that you can determine exactly what needs to be done beforehand. Also, the best bathrooms are always built from ground up rather than in stages - so get started on yours today!
